Over time, many women experience changes to their breasts. Most commonly, this includes loss of firmness and sagging. Whether it’s a result of pregnancy, breast feeding, changes in weight, heredity, or simply the natural aging process, we can help.
Breast lift, or mastopexy, can reshape the breasts by removing excess skin and tightening the surrounding skin. Many patients also opt to have breast implants added at this time to restore upper pole fullness.

Frequently Asked Questions
Depending on your individual needs and the current shape of your breasts, a breast lift may be necessary. Dr. Turkle will let you know her recommendations after an examination. In general, when getting smaller breast implants, most women desire a breast lift to tighten the skin that may have stretched from larger breast implants.
Choosing to have a breast lift is your decision. However, most of our patients find that a breast lift after breast implant removal can help tighten the skin that may have been stretched with previous implants.
Absolutely! Patients choose different implants for various reasons, some including newer technology and overall a more natural and beautiful look with certain devices. During your initial consultation, we will discuss your goals and various types of breast implants to find the ideal size, profile, and material.
Smoking before or after surgery increases the visibility of scarring and causes problems with healing. Therefore, we require that all patients cease the use of nicotine products (including cigarettes, e-cigarettes, chewing tobacco, and all other products containing nicotine). This should last at least four weeks before and four weeks after your surgery.
Many patients ask us this question to help themselves decide the time of year they would like to get a breast lift. That’s because you are restricted from doing certain activities after your surgery. However, we will review your full instructions for post-care during your initial consultation. Our number one goal is to help you heal quickly and minimize your downtime.
In general, you can expect to be able to submerge in water within three to four weeks after your surgery, or after your wounds are totally healed. Regarding exercise, you will be able to walk immediately after your release, but you should wait about two weeks before restarting any cardio or lower-body exercises. Restrictions will include no lifting, pushing or pulling anything greater than 10 pounds for six weeks after surgery.
We will discuss with you any specific restrictions and help you determine how long to take off work and other duties at your consultation.
The majority of breast lift patients are out and about within 24 hours after a breast lift in Indiana. Others may not be ready to return to work for two to five days. We will not limit your return – it depends on the type of work you do and your ability to adhere to the set restrictions.
Yes, you typically can still breastfeed after a breast lift. However, most women choose to wait to have a breast lift until they’re done having children.
Your breasts may appear fuller since they are sitting higher again, but they will be essentially the same volume. If you want larger breasts, you have the option to add breast implants during your breast lift surgery, which also helps to restore fullness.
Yes. We often combine procedures like breast augmentation, liposuction, tummy tuck, and/or labiaplasty with breast lifts. (After pregnancy, this is called a Mommy Makeover.) You may also get facial plastic surgery done at the same time as a breast lift in Indianapolis.
If you are unsure of which procedures you need to best treat your concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us with questions! You can also use our Virtual Consultation Tool for instant feedback on which procedures we recommend for your needs.
Our breast lift surgery in Indianapolis is an outpatient surgery. This means your driver can take you home after you’re released by Dr. Turkle, and should plan to care for you for the first 24 hours after you arrive home.
Absolutely. A donut breast lift is a procedure that requires less tissue removal. This may be favorable for patients who are concerned about scarring or recovery time.
However, patients should keep in mind that this approach does not provide as significant of a lift to the breast compared to other methods.
Usually, a donut breast lift is the best choice for patients whose nipples need to be raised only one or two centimeters, and their breasts do not otherwise sag or droop.
A patient can also choose to have breast implants added during a donut breast lift!
Getting breast implants is not necessary to achieve a youthful, supple appearance during a breast lift. However, some patients opt to include implants for a fuller look during the same time. There are a variety of implants available depending on your overall aesthetic goals! After an examination and consultation, we will help you decide which implant type may work best for you.
Incision patterns for breast lifts can vary depending on the degree of excess skin tissue, as well as the amount of lifting required to achieve your goals. Dr. Turkle will explain the incisions she recommends for you during your initial consultation.
