Enlarged breasts may cause back and neck pain, skin irritation, and breathing problems. However, some women do not experience any of these problems and are simply distressed by the size of their breasts. Perhaps they simply have an unbalanced figure or their clothing does not fit well.
Women who undergo a breast reduction can expect smaller and more proportional breasts.

Frequently Asked Questions
Many patients ask us this question to help themselves decide the time of year they would like to get a breast reduction. That’s because you are restricted from doing certain activities after your surgery. However, we will review your full instructions for post-care during your initial consultation. Our number one goal is to help you heal quickly and minimize your downtime.
In general, you can expect to be able to submerge in water within three to four weeks after your surgery, or after your wounds are totally healed. Regarding exercise, you will be able to walk immediately after your release, but you should wait about two weeks before restarting any cardio or lower-body exercises. Restrictions will include no lifting, pushing or pulling anything greater than 10 pounds for six weeks after surgery.
We will discuss with you any specific restrictions and help you determine how long to take off work and other duties at your consultation.
You can typically still breastfeed after a breast reduction but this would depend on measurements from the chest wall to the nipple. Dr Turkle will take these measurements at your consultation and will let you know if breast feeding should be possible. However, some women choose to wait to have a breast reduction until they’re done having children as this may cause further changes to the breasts that we can help to correct during surgery.
Depending on your pain tolerance and the type of work you do, you may be back at work anywhere between 5 and 7 days after your breast reduction. However, some patients are able to return to work sooner! It simply depends on your individual healing process, the type of work you do, and how closely you follow our post-care instructions.
During a breast reduction in Indianapolis, we are not only able to reduce the size/weight of the breast, but we may also lift and reshape the breast as well!
Smoking before or after surgery increases the visibility of scarring and causes problems with healing. Therefore, we require that all patients cease the use of nicotine products (including cigarettes, e-cigarettes, chewing tobacco, and all other products containing nicotine) at least four weeks before and four weeks after your breast reduction in Indianapolis.
Incision patterns for breast reductions can vary depending on the amount of breast tissue to be removed to achieve your goals. Dr. Turkle will explain the incisions she recommends for you during your initial consultation.
Breast reduction may be performed as an outpatient surgery. We will fully explain this process during your initial consultation for your reduction.
