Getting Your Marionette Line Treatment in Indianapolis

The skin around your mouth is thin and delicate, making it more prone to wrinkling. The area between your mouth and chin is no exception

Marionette lines tend to develop around the age of 40, but they can begin to emerge in your 20s. The good news is that you have options.

At Turkle & Associates, we provide a range of treatments, both surgical and nonsurgical, to address marionette lines and reverse those telltale signs of aging.

What are marionette lines?

Marionette lines, or oral commissure lines, are symmetrical wrinkles that run from the corners of the mouth to the chin. They get their name from marionette puppets that can be made to appear as though they’re speaking. These puppets have hinged jaws that move along lines that extend from either side of their upper lips to below their chins.

What causes marionette lines?

Wrinkles start to form when your body’s collagen production slows down and your skin loses elasticity. This happens naturally with age, but the effects can be exacerbated by smoking and excessive sun exposure.

Marionette lines, in particular, occur as certain facial muscles pull down on the corners of your mouth. As time goes on and your skin loses elasticity, the furrows caused by these muscles (with a little help from gravity) grow more pronounced.

Nonsurgical Marionette Line Treatment in Indianapolis

Reducing the appearance of marionette lines doesn’t always require surgery. Dermal fillers and neuromodulators can provide amazing outcomes. The only downside to nonsurgical treatments is that they are temporary, meaning that touch-up appointments are needed to maintain your results in the long term.

Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers can temporarily reduce the appearance of marionette lines by adding volume that can lift sagging skin by filling in the “hollow” areas under the wrinkles with a gel-like substance. The variety of fillers available make it a highly customizable treatment, and more than a million women and men get fillers annually, according to the American Board of Cosmetic Surgery.

Liquid Facelift

Dermal fillers work well for treating marionette lines on their own, but some patients get their best results when fillers are combined with a neuromodulator like Botox or Jeuveau

Botox can diminish the appearance of marionette lines, but it’s not nearly as effective alone as it is when paired with dermal fillers, such as JUVÉDERM

A liquid facelift uses this combination of injectable treatments to temporarily smooth and lift the lower face without surgery.

Surgical Marionette Line Treatment in Indianapolis

The only permanent solution for marionette lines is surgery. A rhytidectomy, also known as a facelift, can lift and smooth the lower face, jawline, and neck, making it an excellent way to reverse the effects of aging.

Modern facelifts aren’t the primitive procedures they used to be. In the past, plastic surgeons would perform a facelift by removing segments of skin and then pulling together and reattaching the disconnected areas. This often produced unnatural-looking results.

Today, facelifts are much more dynamic. The procedure involves removing extra fat, tightening facial muscles, and readjusting facial skin. We do this to enhance your natural beauty with natural and healthy-looking results.
