Breathe easy. Feel free.
The shape, size, and overall profile of the nose can have a profound effect on a person’s appearance and overall self-confidence.
If you are considering a rhinoplasty in Indianapolis or Carmel, we can help. Rhinoplasty, also known as a nose job, is a common cosmetic procedure that can have striking results on a person’s appearance and self-confidence. Rhinoplasty is tailored to each patient’s goals which may involve altering the overall size of the nose, profile, narrowing of the nostrils, tip of the nose, or changing nasal rotation with the angle between the nose and upper lip.
We find many patients have trouble visualizing what their final surgical result will look like and some patients find it difficult to pinpoint their goals. To assist in communication and planning, we use VECTRA 3D imaging which provides a general simulation of what you might expect from your surgery and is a wonderful communication tool allowing visualization of the projected cosmetic changes to be made.

Frequently Asked Questions
The majority of the incisions are placed inside the nose. An incision is also made across the columella (the narrow strip of tissue that divides the nostrils at the nasal base) which is hidden and becomes inconspicuous after a few short weeks.
Technically, the final results of all surgeries and incisions take 6 to 12 months to see. This is particularly true for a rhinoplasty patient. Results will rely on all swelling to subside, deeper tissues and incisions to heal completely. Typically within 3-4 weeks, results are excellent. Any changes that take place after that time are usually minor and can only be seen when looking closely at photographs.
No, there isn't a clear-cut age limit but a rhinoplasty is best performed once facial development is complete which occurs in the later teenage years. There are certainly exceptions and your doctor will make this determination after thorough discussion and evaluation.
Sometimes grafts are needed in order to achieve the cosmetic or functional results desired. Fortunately, these can generally be taken from inside the nose from the septal cartilage. In certain cases, cartilage from the ear or rib may be needed. Rarely, other materials will be used and this will all be discussed if deemed appropriate at the time of your consultation
No. When a septoplasty is performed in conjunction with rhinoplasty, splints (clear silastic (plastic) tubes may be placed to optimize healing inside of the nose, but no packing will be placed. You will want to use nasal sprays very often to keep these splints clear and open so you can breathe well through your nose during the entire recovery.
Most bruises resolve within 10-14 days or can at least be easily covered with make-up. You will want to use nasal spray multiple times per day to aid in healing and allow you to breathe through your nose throughout your entire recovery. Applying ice and keeping your head elevated also dramatically help in accelerating your healing.
You can swim in three weeks or when your wounds are completely healed.
You can start walking immediately.
You can begin to exercise and/or lifting in two weeks.
Contact sports should be avoided for several weeks to avoid nasal injury during healing.
Most patients are back at work in 1 week, sometimes sooner. “Social” recovery will take longer, as this relies on resolution of bruising and swelling.
Yes, but this is done on a case-by-case basis depending on the patient’s goals and safety of the procedure. More information about non-surgical rhinoplasty is here. Non-surgical rhinoplasty, or liquid rhinoplasty is performed using dermal fillers to provide subtle changes in the shape of the nose.
